Animate your face into any image in Midjourney
Are you a mid-level technical user with a passion for design and animation? Do you find it challenging to create realistic avatars or animate faces? Look no further! I’ve developed an exciting new technique that will give you an edge in design and animation. By combining Midjourney, Insight Face and Photoshop, you can effortlessly animate your face and bring your creations to life. Let’s dive into the four-part technique and unlock your creative potential.
Install Midjourney Premium
Install Midjourney Premium and Set Up Your Server To get started, you’ll need to install Midjourney Premium and set up your own server. Midjourney provides a seamless and user-friendly interface for generating photorealistic scenes. Ensure that the scene you choose includes a face, preferably resembling the person you intend to replace. This step lays the foundation for more realistic and immersive animation.

Render and Upsize your Midjourney idea.
Once you’ve generated a photorealistic scene in Midjourney, it’s time to select the image that closely resembles you or the person you’re animating. In this example, I chose a picture of a photorealistic astronaut holding a can of Coke. While this step of a similar age and look is not mandatory, selecting an image that aligns with your likeness can enhance the commercial appeal of your animations. After choosing the ideal shot, upsize it to achieve better results during the animation process.
Install the Insight Face
Install the Insight Face Free Plug-In Insight Face is a powerful plug-in that simplifies the animation process. It plays a vital role in swapping faces and bringing your illustrations to life. To get started with Insight Face, refer to this informative video that guides you through the installation process and provides a head start on using it in conjunction with Midjourney. You can also add the InsightFace plug-in directly to your Discord Server using this link:
Multiple photos
Capture a Variety of Photos of Your Face or even another face to achieve variations of renders. While Insight Face doesn’t allow for rerolling the same image to obtain different face variations with Midjourney, you can incorporate a new photo each time and use the original image to start the rendering process again. Allocate additional photos one by one to generate slight variations in your face while maintaining the general angle and expression of the original image. For instance, in this astronaut example, I used 3-4 different photos, taken at other times in my life, to showcase a gradual change in facial features, such as wrinkles and micro-expressions, over 15 years.
Upsize images and bring into Video editing or Photoshop
Upsize Each Variation and Utilize Photoshop Now that you have your variations ready, it’s time to bring them into Photoshop. Begin by upsizing each variation to ensure optimal resolution for your animations. Once you have the upsized images, import them into Photoshop as separate layers. Utilize the timeline feature in Photoshop to create a mesmerizing animated GIF, or if you prefer, you can use other video editing software such as Premiere Pro or iMovie to achieve the same result. Let your creativity flow as you bring your animated face to life!

With this five-part technique, you now possess the knowledge and tools to animate your face like never before. Combining Midjourney and Insight Face lets you quickly generate realistic avatars and create captivating animations.
Once you’re up and running a static render of your face on an image will take 1 minute and an animation about 20 minutes.
